Loke-Khoon Tan is a senior partner of the award-winning IP & Technology Group of Baker McKenzie in Hong Kong and China and leads the firm's Consumer Goods & Retail Industry Practice Group in Asia Pacific.
He is an active member of the Firm's Global Diversity & Inclusion Committee, focusing on LGBTQ+. As an integral part of the Firm's Corporate Social Responsibility Program, the Committee has broad oversight for the strategic development and implementation of the Firm's diversity and inclusion activities. Loke-Khoon was named and awarded one of only four Stonewall Global Changemakers of the year for 2022, for his work on advancing global LGBTQ+ workplace equality.
Howard Chan is a senior associate in Herbert Smith Freehills' Competition, Regulation and Trade team and co-chair of the Hong Kong chapter of the firm's LGBTQ+ network, the IRIS Network. In his day-to-day work, Howard advises multinational companies on competition law across Asia and Europe, including on compliance, regulatory investigations and on merger control.
In his role as IRIS Network co-chair, Howard has spearheaded a number of initiatives within the firm, including founding the firm's Diversity Champions Internship Program, in collaboration with Hyatt Hotels and Manulife. Howard is also a strong believer in fusing the firm's reputation as a leading supporter of diversity & inclusion issues with client servicing and winning work for the firm. Under his leadership, the IRIS Network regularly hosts both internal and external facing activities for employees and clients, raising awareness and fostering connections in relation to LGBTQ+ issues.
Michael is a Social Sustainability Professional with a focus on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, currently with Mayer Brown in Hong Kong. With cross-disciplinary knowledge in psychology and public health as well as multi-sector experience in academia, non-profit, and corporate, he supports organizations through consulting, research, events, and programs to facilitate discussions and develop action plans on approaching DE&I and mental well-being as a social and business issue.
Lowell Li is a seasoned professional in the Human Resources field, with a rich background in the legal and hospitality sectors. Her expertise lies in nurturing talent through graduate recruitment and effective personnel management. As a strategic leader at Eversheds Sutherland, Lowell has made significant contributions as a Human Resources Business Partner across the region, focusing on HR consulting and fostering career development. Lowell is also deeply involved in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), actively promoting these values within the workplace. Her approach is always with a sense of humility and a commitment to the growth of both individuals and the firm.
Sarah covers industry-driving developments and trends in Asia's legal industry for the monthly specialist publication, Asian Legal Business (ALB), Thomson Reuters. Prior to ALB, Sarah has built a strong background in public affairs journalism, having directed and presented a weekly current affairs interview program, "Talk The Walk" at one of Hong Kong's leading TV stations. Sarah will be moderating the fireside chat session in the event.
